We love sharing information about our team and why they love what they do. This also gives you a chance to get to know us and our incredible team at All Health Training!
We'd like to introduce you to one of our fabulous long standing aged care trainers, Mandy!
Mandy joined the All Health Training team in 2014 and December 2021, marks Mandy's 7 year anniversary!
Mandy's role at AHT is as a front of room trainer as well as assessing students on placement and course development for our aged care students.
What made you want to get into this type of role?
7 years at AHT, wow! where did that time go.
I was originally working at a Rehabilitation hospital as a night shift nurse and was working with another nurse that explained her additional role was as a trainer. I asked some more questions, found out what I needed to do and completed the Cert IV TAE to transition into being a trainer too.
My work history is long, but my background is as an Enrolled Nurse which I still am. I have worked on Medical/surgical wards, day surgeries and many hospitals around metro Melbourne. This also includes Rehabilitation and Aged care.
What do you love most about your role?
What I love about my role is the first day of a new class to the last day. The first day you meet a group of students that are wanting to make a life change and start a new career, and I get to be a part of that. Watching the students develop their skills, work their way through placement and gain confidence as care workers and eventually fly and leave the class nest is the best.
What do you personally get out of assisting students achieve their study & career goals?
The satisfaction I receive when a student completes the course and gains their first job in the sector is very rewarding. Students are generally busting with excitement to tell me. It's just great!
What is one thing you would tell a student looking to undertake a career in healthcare or a specific area of healthcare?
If I were to offer advice to potential students entering the Aged care sector is be prepared for hard work. This is not an easy job, but the reward of being a carer and providing support to people that need it, is very satisfying. You know that you did that, you helped someone today and you will get to help someone again tomorrow. Basically, you were the one that made a difference in the life of someone else.
What is your favourite saying or quote?
My favourite saying is 'be friendly to everyone' and ' work like you are being watched and you can't go wrong'.
What do you love doing in your spare time (outside of work) and why?
My passion outside of work is road or trail running. It helps me to press the reset button. Half marathons are my favourite distance though I have completed a couple of marathons and an Ultra 50K. Other hobbies include time with family and friends, pool parties, the beach, and holidays.
Any special comments you’d like to make?
And thanks to AHT for their ongoing support that provides me with an easy environment to work in.
And last but not least, we asked our management team to share their thoughts on Mandy - here's what they had to say:
Mandy is the ultimate professional, an absolute pleasure to have on our team. She is passionate about the aged care sector & students love being part of her classes and learning from Mandy.
7 years may sound like a long time, but we think it’s just the beginning for Mandy – here’s to another 7 😊
Happy 7 year anniversary Mandy!
