They provide support to patients and their families, and they help to ensure that hospitals and other healthcare facilities run smoothly.   To work as a PSA, you must have a minimum of a [HLT33115 – Certificate III In Health Services Assistance](https://www.allhealthtraining.edu.au/course/certificate-iii-in-health-services-assistance/). This qualification will teach you the skills you need to be successful in this role, such as: - Communication skills - Customer service skills - Infection control procedures - Patient handling - Basic medical terminology As a PSA, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks, such as:   - Assisting with movement ​ - Attending MET (Medical Emergency) calls​ - Food service ​ - Clinical cleaning​ - Cleaning and maintaining patient rooms - May also undertake additional tasks including linen handling ​ - Waste handling ​ - Handling of medical gas cylinders​ - Transporting patients between departments PSAs work in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, and long-term care facilities.
