Overview of Changes
The transition to the new qualification occurs in 2024. From 2024, there will be a new qualification, the CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support. This new qualification will replace CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support. These changes include:
- New Qualification Code & Title: The new qualification will have a revised code and title, reflecting its updated content and industry requirements.
You will have the option to choose which stream, ageing or disability, based on your preferred job outcome. - Industry Alignment Updates: The CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support has undergone significant updates to ensure it aligns with changed industry expectations. This includes modifications to core units and the elective units bank.
- Pre-Requisite for Certificate IV in Disability Support: The CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) will serve as a prerequisite for enrolling in the Certificate IV in Disability Support.
Maintaining the Value of Your Current Qualification
For those currently studying or have completed the CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support, rest assured that your qualification will remain nationally recognised.
While the new qualification will feature a different code, title, and some updated unit content, your existing qualification will continue to hold its value and relevance in the industry.
Reasons Behind the Changes
- Regular Review and Industry Consultation: Every 5-7 years, national consultation with industry stakeholders takes place. This is part of the regular review and industry consultation process, which ensures that qualifications, as well as the health industry, stay up to date.
- Endorsement and Release: The endorsement of the new qualification by Australian Industry Skills Committee ensures that the qualification meets the evolving needs of the industry, resulting in the release of a new vocational course that enhances industry standards and practices.
Minimum Entry Level Requirements for Aged Care & Disability Sectors
Obtaining a Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) is the minimum entry level qualification required to access employment opportunities within the aged care sector as an aged care worker.
Similarly, individuals aspiring to work in the disability sector as a disability support worker are encouraged to attain a minimum entry level qualification of Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability).
These certifications serve as foundational credentials, ensuring a clear pathway for aspiring professionals to enter and contribute to their respective fields with the necessary skills and knowledge.
